Podcast gives it to Al Jazeera with both barrels

This week we welcome Dr Mordechai Kedar, of the Arabic Department of Bar-Ilan University in Tel Aviv. While appearing recently on Al Jazeera talking about building apartments in Jerusalem, he decided not to take the role of a pinata as expected by the show's host.

He informed the Al Jazeera interviewer that what Israel does in its own capital was none of the Arab world's business as it has been the capital of the Jewish people for three thousand years, ever since the ancestors of the Arabs had been burying their infant daughters live, drinking wine and worshiping stone idols.

You can watch the exchange on YouTube. I should point out that this clip appeared online first in the original Arabic and it was with the help of Palestinian Media Watch that the clip was subtitled in English.

Also on the show this week we cover the extraordinary pronouncement by the most senior Judge in Britain that maybe Sharia isn't so bad. Melanie Phillips' (no relation) blog is a good place to look.

Eye on the UN produced the video of David Littman being shouted down by Egypt while trying to speak about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) at the UN Human Rights Council.

Barry Rubin wrote the tremendous piece noting the New York Time's 1924 headline: "Hitler Tamed By Prison; Released on Parole, He Is Expected to Return to Austria.". You can find his article here: Prisoner Rehabilitated; Fifty Million Die.

Two crazy kid stories out of the UK. Nursery teachers on the look out for nursery Nazis and teenagers who refuse to kneel and pray to Allah.

The short quote from Danny Gillerman comes from Israellycool Dave's blog. Find it here.

This week we are joined once again by Peter Glover speaking about Israel's flying pigs.

Evan Sayet would very much like you to know about his up coming show "Right to Laugh" in Hollywood on 22nd July. More details here.

Doug Payton is back and sounding better than ever.

Podcast says Happy Birthday Israel

This week week we conclude our chat with Prof Barry Rubin, Director, Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center and Editor, Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) Journal .

As we approach the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the modern state of Israel, Barry joins us to talk about his latest reprinting of "The Israel Arab Reader". The book provides over 300 original source documents and gives a massive amount of background into the Israeli Arab struggle.

In Blog news this week we cover such delights as the BBC's new advert to remind people in Britain that they can go to jail for not paying up their Telly Tax. Biased BBC has the video.

The Wall Street Journal has more about the "Hostile" environment at Dartmouth.

Our own Meryl Yourish brought to our attention the disgrace words of Tom Levitt. You can read more here.

We have our regular chat with Evan Sayet and you can pre-order his new book on Amazon.

Meryl Yourish is talking about the reason Israel needs a strong army and air force. It's not complicated, Jews just don't think the UN is up to protecting them.

The version of Hatikva I play at the end of the show can be bought as part of the boxed set linked to here. Do consider it, the rest of the performances are terrific too.

We have been nominated for an award. Oh dear.

My site was nominated for Best Podcast!

Podcast is in Bali looking for Moderation while Hamas is in Gaza killing it

We speak this week to the Libforall founder and CEO, Holland Taylor, and asked him why they decided to hold a very public event in a Muslim country, specifically to challenge Muslim holocaust denial.

Earlier in the week, you may have read about a conference on the Indonesian island of Bali, at which a Czech Holocaust survivor gave a moving address to a multi-faith conference, attended by many Muslim leaders.

It was designed at act as a counterweight to the recent Iranian Conference which maintained that A) the Holocaust didn't happen, B) it did happen but it was nowhere near as bad as those pesky Jews keep saying, and C) it did happen but Hitler didn't do a thorough enough job so now the Muslims have to finish it for him.

But at last week's conference, held on the mainly Hindu island of Bali, Indonesia's former president, Abdurrahman Wahid, also known as Gus Dur, denounced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for branding the Holocaust a myth. The meeting was organised by the Libforall Foundation

In the news this week we look at the chaos in Gaza as Hamas seize control and kill anyone they don't like the look of. We mention the following post from the Blacktygrrrr blog. The sound clips are, of course, from the film Lawrence of Arabia.

For the Dennis Miller shellacking on Fox News of Harry Reid head over to YouTube.

This week's weird fatwa can be found in the Jerusalem Post.

The BBC's outrageous dhimmitude is uncovered here at Backspin.

Doug Payton is considering CAIR's membership woes and his work can be found here.

Meryl Yourish is thinking up new ideas for next season's TV.

Podcast didn't secure President George W Bush for an interview this week

edit Tom Paine, Brian of London and others 2007-06-11 15:57 UTC 3 comments  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·

This week we don't have a feature interview as President George Bush didn't return our calls. We wanted to ask him what he thought about the Dhimmification of Europe and the US. But I guess we'll just have to wait. Instead Tom Paine talks about the 1940s Noel Coward/David Lean movie 'In Which We Serve'.

In BlogNews this week we go first to the TimeOut Magazine article "Is London's Future Islamic?". Iowahawk managed to find a first draft of this piece entitled "London's Swinging like a Scimitar" but frankly the original is a parody of itself.

This week's weird Fatwa can be found at Little Green Footballs. Read it and weep. The Guardian's piece about Tony Blair is here: Blair launches fund to improve teaching of Islam.

The Terror Finance blog has the piece about Tariq Ramadan assaulting people in France.

This week Damian goes after Che Guevara and mentions the following post from Mucracked!. Damian's Blog can be found here.

Meryl is on fine form and talking about Ahamdinejad and Israel.

Podcast Asks "Muslim Reformation? What Muslim Reformation"?

edit Tom Paine, Brian of London and others 2007-03-11 15:01 UTC add comment  ·  ·  ·

This week "Tom Paine" remains at the anchor desk, as Brian of London's new baby seems to be taking up a surprising amount of time and energy from two grown adults, especially for such a small package.

The feature interview is with Professor Raphael Israeli, of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, who caused a ruckus in Australia when he suggested Muslim immigration be capped. He gets a chance to explain himself at some length on SNN.

In this week's blog news, Senator Hillary Clinton blacks up, goes down on one knee and belts out a rousing chorus of "Mammy". Next week she's expected to issue a press release insisting that Barak Obama not throw her in the briar patch.

An Iranian Revolutionary Guard General with half the secrets of the Mullahs in his head has managed to defect and is currently helping teams of mysterious men from the Department of Certain Things, with bulges under their arms and wires in their ears with their inquiries. Approved, proceed, action this day.

Now hear this, now hear this. Ann Coulter is an idiot. That is all.

Australian Chapter of "Jews for Genocide" formed. Founder and guiding inspiration, Anthony Lowenstein unable to comprehend when someone is making fun of him in Hebrew. Cries of silenced dissent deafen entire population

SNN senior Canadian Affairs correspondent Damian Penny has some kind words for a BBC program about 9/11 denial. Believe it or not!

Meryl Yourish scores another exclusive interview, this time with the Emeritus Professor of Advanced Studies at Princeton, and visiting scholar-in-residence at Oxford University's Department of Extreme Cleverness, Pamela Anderson. Turns out the crazy lady thought Ugg boots were made from, I don't know, Uggs, or something. Every time I read anything Pamela Anderson says, I can feel my brain cells dying.

Laurence Simon, SNN chief Texas field correspondent, reports in from an imaginary world about how John Edwards got his virtual campaign HQ in Second Life vandalised. Jeez, the guy even gets beat up in imaginary worlds! Needless to say evil Rethuglicans are being held responsible, although there's no evidence to support that. Conservatives are just evil man, everyone knows that.

I kick of Blog News by reviewing our performance at the Blog Awards where we came in 5th. Extracts from the Slate Daily Podcast and Open Source Sex. Time Magazine really has flipped out: I rather like Robert Spencer's take on their nonsense award over at JihadWatch.

Judith at Keshertalk gives us the 2006 take on how to deal with the Ku Klux Klan.

The Ynet story about the Israeli Supreme Court can be found here.

Meryl Yourish will be back in the new year.

Damian Penny is talking about Dictators.

Laurence Simon is talking the denial of Muhammad conference in Tel Aviv.

This week's closing quote is once again by Winston Churchill. This time it is from a document found in the library of FDR. You can find it here.

At this moment when the New Year opens in storm, I feel it my duty on behalf of the British Government and indeed the whole British Empire to tell you, Mr. President, how lively is our sense of gratitude and admiration for the memorable declaration which you made to the American people and to the lovers of Freedom in all continents on Sunday last.
We cannot tell what lies before us, but with this trumpet-call we march forward heartened and fortified and with the confidence which you have expressed that in the end all will be well for the English speaking peoples and those who share their ideals.

To buy your copy or view a 12 min taster, go to their web site. We can't recommend this highly enough. If you happen to have watched the movie in whole or part on YouTube or Google video, consider buying a DVD anyway. Please consider that these people deserve to make a living and recoup their costs so they can make the next film.

In blog news this week I cover our effect on the Senate race in Virgina. It isn't our fault I promise. Take a look at Meryl's blog for more information.

Ted Rall manages to write something that makes satire redundant. See here if you have the stomach.

The net is awash with stories about Nick Griffin of the BNP. You can start here in the Times if you like.

I play a track from a 12 CD boxed set of Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta playing Hatikvah, Hope, the Israeli National anthem. You can buy this online here or look for a copy local to you. It really is worth it.

Meryl Yourish has relented and agreed to continue at Shire Network News.

Damian Penny is on a break.

Laurence Simon is missing but take a look at this letter on his blog. It is a riot.

This week's final quote is, of course, from Winston Churchill.

One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half.

This week, Tom Paine interviews Dr Rusty Shackleford of the The Jawa Report blog about his uncovering of the second Adnan Haj faux-photograph.

Other contributions come from Brian of London, talking about the economics of airports and Muslim only flights. Damian Penny is left speechless by the left.

Blognews gives honorable mention to Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs for a post uncovering the inner workings of Associated Press TV News (APTN). Bias is built into the business model. The unbelievable headline "Israel on baby-killing spree" from the Kuwait Times comes up next (no link... find it yourself). We also couldn't resist "Rockets hit Nahariya chicken coop; two cows die".

For a piece of humour we try to order burgers from Beirut.
