The 2008 Weblog Awards

We're back and broadcasting Shire Network News again. This week we've put together a cracking show featuring old favorites and a special timely interview with former guest, Professor Barry Rubin, Director, Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center and Editor, Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) Journal.

He is talking to us direct from Israel where he is only just outside Hamas rocket range. He's also got some very wise words for us all on not taking the media too seriously and the implications for the rest of the world of criticism of Israel's actions in trying to deal with the Hamas terrorist threat.

Please feel free to follow your host, Brian of London on Twitter. In Blog News we hear some Hamas terrorist biographies from Israellycool Dave's site. You should be following Dave's site for the best live blogging with his own brand of commentary.

We also hear Victor Davis Hanson's suggestions for how the Israelis could be a bit more "proportional" in their response.

It's been a long time but this much Gaza noise and the fact that it even invaded his cozy world of Second Life, has brought our old friend Laurence Simon out of retirement. You can find him on line at his site "This blog is full of crap" where you'll find links to his other work. Laurence mentions sending a pizza to the IDF which you can do from Pizza IDF.

Meryl Yourish is also, of course, right on top of this topic. Please visit her excellent and constantly updated blog.

We close with an extract from a particularly strong speech given by Winston Churchill. I urge you to read the whole thing. The Munich Agreement.

I will also re-iterate here: we are looking to raise money to make this show grow substantially. Please help us out if you can. We've provided years of top quality news, satire, humour and entertainment: you decide if that has been worth something to you. And to all who have donated all ready our very heartiest thanks!

If you would like to advertise on our show, please get in touch!

So with that, I commend this show to the house!

Loved the popcast Back into Gaza.

Great to hear such satire against the backdrop of all the leftist Islamist propaganda from the likes of the BBC and Fleet Street press.

Keep up the excellent work.

Thank you,

from the bottom of my heart to all of SNN crew and contributors for your shows.

And of course to Israel and it's finest, all the best luck to the IDF, Godspeed and a safe return after getting rid of the hamassholes.

I've contributed (ChipIn), alas little but as much as I could at present.

Cheers Callahan

You guys are superb! I only just discovered you, but I have a feeling this is going to be a longish acquaintance. Keep up the good work! I'll contribute as soon as I get back home (I'm in Israel-hating Norway at the moment). I laughed, I cried, I took good notes...  I'm reading 1948 by Benny Morris at the mo which is an excellent history of the Israeli war of national creation. Good background for whats going on in Gaza. Highly recommended.

My blog is Merry Warriors (http://westhuhal.blogspot.com/). You may notice a certain similarity between world views....  Please stop by if you have a moment.

Ye Olde Beastie searched the sofa cushions and managed to throw a pittance into the pot.  Thanks for coming back early with such a great show.

Hi there... I'm posting in a comment because this way it gets emailed out to all the people who commented here. It's not s-p-a-m I promise!

We're nominated for another Weblog Best Podcast award so if you'd care to vote, you're allowed to do so once per day!

Thanks again for a wonderful podcast. And yes, I did throw into the tip jar. Everyone listening should. If this podcast is worth nothing to you then why do you listen?

I also bought a pizza and soda for the people of Sderot. I can't imagine what it must be like to live under their circumstances. I've taken great pleasure in fantasizing about the delivery of "my" pizza. I only wish I could do more.

God Bless and may you all live in peace one day.

It's nice to see you back.

I have a technical request.

When you are creating the podcasts, can you please put the show number at the start of the name of the podcast.  I have an ipod integrated car stereo, and it is hell to flick through the podcasts on the lame little screen (which only displays about 16 characters) on the car stereo to find the one I am after.

Ta.  I look forward to listening to the latest on the way to work tomorrow.  And I'm glad to see the donation total moving upwards - it means mine got through (that's a hint to all you other listeners).

Look, I'm as tight fisted and miserable as the next joker, but I relented and realised that for a few lousy bucks - the amount I might spend on a bit of Islamist literature for my own curiousity - I could put my money where my mouth is and actually do something useful to fight the jihad.

You go get 'em fellas (& fellesses)! I wish I could do what you do, but if I can biff a couple of dollars in the collection I consider it a privelege to help out. (I'll keep praying too).

Folks, thanks so much for your contributions.  We really do try to put out a quality show each time, and believe that we can indeed take it to another level.  Your help in this is greatly appreciated.  A new web site will be a great start in getting ... er, "net-cred" as we prepare to ramp it up.

Two things:

1) Any chance the contirbutions qualify as non-profit/charitable contributions under US tax law?

2) Whereever you end up, please make sure your podcasts are downloadable via iTunes

And Thanks

Sorry, we don't have a nonprofit tax ID, so no, you can't deduct contributions.

Hi to all the SNN team,

revisited the site and saw that the contributions had grown, but not yet enough, so I chipped in again - not asking for thanks, just trying to encourage some more 'subscriptions' to provide the ammunition against the Jihad.

Our listeners might like to see the following webcasts which are relevant and of interest:

http://www.politicstv.com/blog/?p=872 (Douglas Murray speaking at the Hudson Institute - it is described as a neo conservative talk but he goes into some depth on Islamic threats)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iCi_3Ecl88o (Jihad In Europe event -  Speakers Melanie Phillips, Robert Spencer (always so good to listen to), Douglas Murray - his segment is very, very hard hitting)

Keep up the great work. Fingers crossed that you make the $1200......where's Carl Rove when you Really need him....

Regards

Hey everyone, get yourselves over to this link and sign the petition to the Dutch government; Gert Wilders (he of the film Fitna) is under threat of prosecution for exericsing his right of free speech against Islamic fascism.

Link here: http://www.google.co.uk/url?q=http://www.petitiononline.com/wilders/petition.html&sa=X&oi=revisions_result&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&usg=AFQjCNEowPatIfHw8B4KMNO9QoFmfLMl0g

If that doesn;t work, search Gert Wilders petition.

Europe seems to have forgotten that we chucked the Nazi's out 60 odd years ago!

Go get 'em!

Why are Palestinian women so fertile?  Aside from the obvious, I have been able to determine:

  • The water is not fluoridated

  • The soil is the richest in the world in boron

  • The solar conditions are perfect for making vitamin D

We're at that awkward stage between Blogmatrix and our own site.  Blogmatrix is, as we noted, shutting down and so they've stopped serving up podcasts.  Please stay tuned for further developments, including the show notes for episode 155.
