This week's guest is Patti Patton-Bader, founder of Soldiers Angels, which organises a surprisingly vast array of methods by which you, the ordinary civillian at home, can show real support for the troops.

Whether it be by sending care packages, baked goods, blankets and cards, providng practical assistance for soldiers families, assisting chaplains with their work, or even organising voice-activated laptop computers for wounded soldiers, Soldiers Angels can help you to help the troops.

Go visit www.soldiersangels.org. You will also find news there of the Mom of the Year award that Patti received on Mother's day in the US.

In Blog News this week we talk about Sheik Ali Al-Faqir's appearance on Al Aqsa TV as reported by Memri. Apparently main stream opinion in Islam is that the whole world should be conquered by Jihad. What a surprise.

Obama thinks there are 58 states in the US. It's all over the blogs.

For video of Jeremy Bowen under fire (and not by Israel either) you can look at the BBC site.

This week we have a contribution from Doug Payton. He's terribly worried by the changes in the weight of the standard Kilogram.

We have our regular chat with Evan Sayet and you can pre-order his new book on Amazon.

I see that moving to New York has made Brian spell "mum" with an "o". Poor show, betraying your roots like that.

Well, but he still spells "organising" with an "s", so that's OK, eh?  :)

It was only after a particularly long editorial meeting that the decision was taken to retain the American spelling of "Mom". It was taken into consideration that because this was a prize awarded by Americans to an American, the title constituted a direct quote of the award citation and should, therefore, retain the original (if incorrect) spelling.

It's not good to over analyze these things too much. One can drive oneself slightly crazy.

Brian.

Haha. That is true and I have to admit that I wrote the comment with tongue firmly in cheek and before I'd actually listened to the podcast. Whilst listening I realised why you'd gone with the American bastardised version of our language. I am pleased to know that you had a very long editorial meeting to decide though. :P

Excellant podcast as ever this week, as usual it made a laugh a great deal, I agreed with large parts and disagreed with the large parts. But that's the point isn't it. That's the point of freedom and debate. If we all agreed with each other it would a very boring world.

By the way can we have more Merryl next, it's just not the without her. Keep up the good work!!

Well done.  As to the great mom/mum controversy, I believe Brian made the right choice in the spirit of traditional cross-pond relations.  After all, I never heard any American refer to Her Majesty's late and lamented mother as the "Queen Mom".  If I had I would have told him/her:  "She's the 'Queen Mum', you idiot."

Mum or Mom, I think we're alright as long as we don't start referring to them as "female parental units".

Something for next week's show perhaps? It is amazing how the American left seem to latch on to every crazy conspiracy theory going... Anyway, the article put me in mind of your Karl Rove (Owwwwwww...) sound-thingy. Might be useful.
Also check out the article on the posters of the Obama campaign... A useful insight into the madness of the American left.
