This week week's guest is Prof Barry Rubin, Director, Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center and Editor, Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) Journal .

As we approach the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the modern state of Israel, Barry joins us to talk about his latest reprinting of "The Israel Arab Reader". The book provides over 300 original source documents and gives a massive amount of background into the Israeli Arab struggle.

In blog news this week we cover the news that Israel bombed a North Korean built nuclear bomb fuel plant in Syria last September. Click if you want to see the full lyrics of Bob Dylan's Neighborhood Bully.

The summing up of the US election race if from Red State Update. Genius. We found it via HotAir.

We also have work from Meryl Yourish, Doug Payton and Damian Penny. Be sure to follow all their blogs.

Dear Brian,

Thank you for responding to my invitation to visit the great State of Arkansas.  I had to chuckle at your run-in with the gun-toting youths upset over your speaking to their women folk. There were, and still are, areas of Arkansas that are starved for entertainment.  Rest assured that those boys were not serious.  Had they been...

If I'm correct (as in factually, not politically) both the firearm emporium and the bail bondsman office you mentioned have gone the way of the Dodo.  There are, however several new firearm dealers and one or two bail bond establishments open for business should you visit our fair city again.  If you do, please email me well in advance.  I may be able to get you some nice digs at greatly reduced rates.

Very sincerely yours,

USBeast

P. S.  Under no circumstances should you abandon "Rule Britannia".  If you do, at least have the (satiric) good sense to replace it with "Jerusalem".

Greetings from Shanghai!

I'm in China for a month-long trip; not business, just pleasure. I wanted you to know that, although China is notorious for blocking out politically unacceptable websites, yours is reachable here, and you come through loud and clear.

Regarding Golda Meir, I heard another, similar comment attributed to her. It's something to the effect of: "Better that we get the world's condemnations than their condolences."

I see that SNN was nominated for a 2008 Blogger's Choice Award for Best Podcast. You have my vote and hope you will defeat the inferior podcasts in the category.
